Embrace Vata Season with Ayurveda and Lümia Botanicals
As we begin to feel the ebb and flow of the seasons changing with autumn on the horizon, we may start to take a closer look at our wellness routines. In Ayurveda, Vata season, is characterized by the qualities of cold, dry, and irregular, which often leaves us feeling unsettled with our immune systems at an all time low. However, by harnessing the principles of Ayurveda and incorporating natural, herbal supplements, we can strengthen our immunity and embrace this season with vitality and resilience.
Understanding Vata Season
In Ayurveda, Vata dosha is one of the three primary energies (doshas) that govern our physical and mental processes. Vata season typically spans the fall and early winter months, bringing about changes that can affect our physical and mental health. The qualities of Vata—cold, dry, and irregular—can lead to issues such as dry skin, irregular digestion, and an increased susceptibility to colds and flu.
To counterbalance these effects, Ayurveda recommends nurturing routines and natural remedies that help pacify Vata. This involves embracing warmth, moisture, and stability in our lifestyle and diet.
Ayurvedic Tips for Boosting Immunity During Vata Season
-
Nourishing Diet: Incorporate warm, cooked foods that are moist and easy to digest. Soups, stews, and cooked grains can help balance the dryness of Vata. Opt for sweet, sour, and salty tastes, which counteract the cold qualities of Vata.
-
Hydration: Drink plenty of warm fluids such as herbal teas and warm water with lemon. One of our favourite hacks is to blend lemon juice and ginger together in water, to then freeze in an ice cube tray to make lemon ginger ice cubes! Add this to your hot water in the mornings for quick and easy digestive and immune system support. Herbal teas with ginger, cinnamon, or licorice can be particularly soothing and supportive for digestion and immunity.
-
Routine and Rest: Establish a stable daily routine that includes regular sleep patterns and time for relaxation. This helps counterbalance Vata's irregular nature and supports overall immune health. We recommend hitting the hay before 10pm.
-
Abhyanga (Self-Massage): Regular self-massage with herbal oils can help soothe the nervous system, improve circulation, and keep the skin hydrated. Shop our body line here for body butters, body oils and more!
-
Herbal Support: Incorporate herbs that support immune function and balance Vata, such as ashwagandha, turmeric, and licorice.
