If you grew up in the 60s and 70s, you're likely already very familiar with this floral herb. Revered in the 60s & 70s by hippies, it was often used to cover up the smell of marijuana on clothes and in homes! That's what many people are reminded of when they think of Patchouli - counterculture, anti-establishment and flower children. So of course you will find many products with Patchouli essential oil in our product line.
Although Patchouli is native to Asia, its first applications were actually developed in South India. Mainly used as a medicine, it was also used as an insect repellant and even found in herbal teas. This bushy and flowering perennial herb has a deep, rich aroma that arrived in the Middle East along the silk trading routes. It was likely Napoleon himself who introduced Patchouli to Europe, as he had fine silks and cashmeres delivered to him from Egypt, in which they would lay leaves of Patchouli with the fine cloths to deter moths. Europeans soon became captivated by its beautifully sweet and decadent smell, which in turn quickly became coveted in perfumes and soaps throughout Europe.
Revered for its skin rejuvenating properties, this plant can also be used in relieving symptoms of stress and depression, controlling appetite, and ease headaches as well as colds & flus. Being that this herb supports the nervous system while maintaining a romantic and floral scent, its also a fantastic oil to fight fears, gain confidence and seek calm resolution during situations of high stress or confrontation.
It also helps to soothe inflammation, fight water retention, and speeds up the healing of wounds by stimulating regeneration of the skin.
